Gold Fields South Deep helps build Gogo's dream house - Daily Sun

Monday, 6 August 2018

A FORMER cop has brought a smile back to a gogo’s face.

For many years, the ex-cop, Mantwa Mohlokoane chased criminals and interviewed elderly victims of crime who locked themselves in their shacks as they feared thugs.

Gogo Makgotso Lephane (69) lived in a shack with her two orphaned grand kids for many years.

Mantwa, who is now a businesswoman, built gogo Makgotso a house in Westonaria Borwa, west of Joburg.

She was joined by hundreds of residents and the Rand West Municipality on Thursday to hand over the house to gogo Makgotso.

The three-bedroom house has a kitchen, lounge and toilet. Mantwa told Daily Sun said she didn’t hesitate when South Deep Gold Mine offered to partner with her to build the gogo’s house.

Mantwa was also assisted Crimson King Properties.

The company donated the land.

Sandvik, Kaltire and AARD donated furniture and toys for the grandkids.

The construction company, Ramasedi was applauded for building the house within a month.

Rand West municipal mayor Mzi Khumalo said the area has a housing backlog.

He thanked all those who worked together to help the poor gogo.

Randwest Stakeholders Forum chairman Tebogo Makolwane said: “We thank young women like Mantwa and the councillor who identified the gogo. She is a suitable beneficiary.”

Gogo Makgotso said she was among the first people in the area who applied for an RDP house but had no success.

“I had lost all hope. Thanks to generous Mantwa and her other partners, I now own a big house,” she said.
