Big prize money up for grabs in Gold Fields Ghana golf tournament - Ghana Web
The headline sponsors of the Professional Golfers Association of Ghana (PGAGhana) Championship, Gold Fields Ghana Limited have announced a 40 percent increase in the total prize money to GH140,000 for this year's championship which takes place between November 29-December 2 at the Damang Golf Club.
The Executive Vice President & Head of West Africa Region Gold Fields, Alfred Baku, at a press briefing to herald the fourth edition of the Goldfields PGAGhana Championship said the increase in his outfit's total financial commitment is part of efforts to boost the profile of the competition on the African continent.
He said the overall winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of GH?25,000 in addition to a trophy.
Mr Baku also stated that for the first time, there will be competitive contests for the seniors (golfers aged above 50 years) with a GH15,000 cash prize at stake while the caddies will battle it out for the chance to win a full set of golf clubs.
He promised an exciting championship, expressing hope that this year’s championship will be retained by a Ghanaian golfer.
The Tournament Director, Kwesi Prempeh said about 80 professional golfers are expected to participate in the four-day competition. The number of golfers would be cut to 24 after the second day of competition.
The 24 golfers who make it to the next stage will be given a share of the cash prize.
